I AM A NATURAL WONDER

When sitting at a picnic one summer afternoon,
I remembered to hold my knees together
and a 7.0 earthquake hit somewhere it was winter.

I can fold myself in half
and in half till I touch the moon
or disappear, but can’t stand up.

Mostly I just lie quite still,
only move my eyes.

When I grow restless, he knows from the tremors
in the west and when I go to sleep,
he whispers the spell again and kisses my ear.
